Target: MAN

By Dr. Wayne Evans,

It seems that everyone is having to come to grips with…of all things…that neglected hero of the world:  MAN!  Pastor.Wayne.1It’s in commercials—this product is for REAL MEN.  Radio hosts talk about it—this person was a MAN’S MAN.  There is even a great TV show devoted to the construction of MAN CAVES.  I love it.  We are not ignored.  In spite of the way some of the women and all of the whimps have tried to neuter us, we are rising like our manhood at full salute.

It gives me—and should give all of us—hope.  Right now, my own man cave is a bathroom with the exhaust fan.  Now it’s not too bad, either.  I have a landline, cable TV, and a reclining desk chair.  It’s true that the chair spends time in the tub stall when I’m not using it.  But it’s better than the garage in the heat of August or the cold of January.  I have my last child starting to college later this month.  So a time is approaching when I can do even better than a BATh CAVE.

steakMen like us work the jobs and pay the bills.  We pay the taxes and fight the wars.  We help turn actors and athletes into millionaires.  We justify the advertisers when we buy their products.  We obey the laws and give to charities—often generously.  We make the world go around…usually with little or no thanks.  That’s okay, we don’t mind.  We have our own celebration—to sit back with a fine handmade cigar and ponder the joys of living.

So when we get some recognition, that’s icing on the cake.  But as your spiritual advisor, I want to remind you that there is a marvelous Creator behind this wonderful creation.  All of us have times when life deals us a blow or two that remind us of our limitations.  That is a call to reflect on or even look to the Creator.  Notice the wide variety of the world we have received.  Grains make plain ole cereal and wonderful cakes.  Brown cows eat green grass and give us white milk.  If we get tired of steak, there’s always fish or chicken. There are forests and manOnCliffdeserts…oceans and sky.  The seasons change and people (who can disappoint us) more often show us their good sides.

We are very fortunate.  That variety of creation leads us to understand that the same creativity goes beyond life in this world.  If we keep that in mind, it keeps the bellyblows of life in perspective.  We can be put upon…but not always.  We celebrate!  We are MEN…inheritors of a creative God who made all of this for us.  Ponder that as you light up your next stogie and sit back to celebrate life.

Great article. Seems that we have become afraid to celebrate manliness. And more afraid to teach our boys how to be men and even MORE afraid to teach our little girls what real men are all about. There are many fine role models out there. They probably aren’t on television and they don’t wear a jersey – they are regular guys who work hard, do their best to live with integrity and honesty and take care of their families.

    Thanks Larry, I agree.
