I've read all the comments and that is exactly why I wrote the book. For the last post, the "poor me" person is really a cross between the Needy Weenie and the Whine and Cheeser. I like using the TLC approach, Take it, Leave it, or Change it. When they are sapping around, keep your language in the "I" mode. Something like, "You know what I've learned? I've learned that I have three choices. I can take it (meaning in the moment I'm not stressed because I'm working on a plan.) I can leave it (which means I reject or walk away from the situation) or I can change it (which means I will be more flexible and learn new skills to help me move forward." Then I will say, "Whats YOUR plan." They will start whining around, and I will say the same exact thing over, and over, and over, until they will go suck the life out of someone else. At least they are leaving ME alone. Does that help??? Marsha
ps: the book is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or my web site www.MarshaPetrieSue.com and thanks for asking!

Everyone thinks about the abusive / abrasive / acerbic person, but there's a person in my office who is the classic "Poor Me." She is a sorry sap who always has the sad face and the world is her personal hell. At first you get sucked in and feel sorry for her, but after a while you want to hit her in the face with a vase.

While she's not abusive or confronting, her negative demeanor sucks the life force out of everyone in my office. The biggest thing of all is that she is incredibly MANIPULATIVE.

Marsha... if you're reading, I'd love you to comment on this.

Thanks so much,
Robin

It seems everyone has had someone like this in their lives. It's kind of funny how wishing death upon someone like this comes so easy. My ex-business partner was the steam roller from hell.

I could use this book! There's a person at work named ... uh, wait. Her daughter's a lawyer. Maybe calling her out isn't the best approach, anyway. Let me read the book.
