I watched Ice Road Truckers for an entire day… it’s frakking mesmerizing… and I was hung over… but I still would have watched it all day. The best of the “build” shows was a mini series that Jesse James did even before Monster Garage. I don’t remember what it was called, but that kid is the McGuyver of building anything. American Chopper uses a lot of stock parts, outsourced “custom”, and modified stock… Jesse will take a chunk of sheet metal and fabricate that fucker into a bike from the ground up… American Chopper, I get sick of hearing everyone yelling at everyone else, and I think a lot of the theme bikes are just kinda… tacky

but that’s why I can’t have cable… if I had it, I would never leave the house… “but.. but.. they have to go get the PODS.. and the storm is coming FAST.. and and…”

I love Dirty Jobs and Deadliest Catch. I like Bear Grilles, but it’s hard to watch his shows … especially when he drinks his own piss. AxMen is good and Suvivor Man is excellent … too bad Les decided to end the show.

My dad doesn’t understand shows like Deadliest Catch … “all they do is catch crab every episode” … some people just don’t get it. It’s about the dynamics of the crews being on that small boat for weeks or months at a time, the stress of not catching crab, the highs that come when they do … and so much more.

Shows like this are important. Too many times in sitcoms and other shows men are showed as being puny, weak, morons or some other form of non-appealing light. These shows show men at their best … working hard and willing to do just about anything to make a living for them and their family.

These are jobs they don’t have to do and are often jobs most of us wouldn’t want to do. But all in all, I’m willing to bet that the guys on these shows are happier with their lives than over 50% of the men reading this column.

Tommy, the food shows are kind of kick ass as well. Like Andrew Zimmerman’s show “Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern” and Anthony Bourdain’s show “No Reservations”. Gotta love a show where a guy will it 5 year old fish.

Zman, can’t wait for your show to hit the Discovery channel. Are you going after Mike Rowe for the voice over? I would be a bit concerned if you made the high def channel though. Might be too many pixels of the Zman!! cheers brutha!

Funny that you think of him as a man’s man yet the dude used to sing opera. Just don’t seem to fit the idea we carry of “mans man”.

Don’t get me wrong – I love the guy.

Some of those Axmen guys are logging in my backyard ……… at least where I grew up. Used to hunt those hills, and go off-roading, 4 wheeling and motorbiking.

Ahhhhh ……… the fresh air lifestyle given up for the ever exciting 495/270 corridor. LOL
