Good read TommyZ! Interesting how this younger generation is waaaay more F@#ked up than even mine (I was born in 1981)school shootings…Emo….cutters…for Christ sakes….CUTTERS, it’s actually quite common nowadays….don’t even get me started!! Ofcourse I can’t blame them, if I spent my childhood watchin teletubies and Dora the explorer I’d probably wanna cut myself too!

Give these poor children their Loony Toons, anvils, hammers, guns, and all so our next generation can get off the slew of antidepressants that are handed out on the daily basis.

I was born in 1971, and when I was young, we had our very own bike “gang”… we’d ride off to this GIGANTIC natural growth park in the area, dig foxholes, throw pinecone grenades at each other, and look at Playboys. Pretty sure my mom smoked when she was pregnant with me and my brother. Soda pop was rationed to us, and dinner was very meat and potatoes.

Kids actually respected their teachers, even if we “hated” going to school. I didn’t turn out “ok” I turned out great– I can think for myself and form a coherent sentence. I paid for college myself… even though I watched “violent” cartoons as a child.

Actually I would have to say that WB cartoons taught our generation QUITE a bit about history and older pop culture… does our younger generation know who Jack Benny is? the book “Of Mice and Men”? ANYTHING about WWII?

I think that what killed the cartoons was the toy industry. Hanna Barbera helped set up the factory approach to cartoons, which then gave way to all of these toy tie-ins. The more innocent and syrupy the cartoon, the less offended parents would be, but also the more empty-headed the final product. It’s a shame.

I miss my Saturday morning cartoons. They had a wholesome appeal … one that can’t be matched by booger picking dogs, farting cows, Pokeman or goth-like creatures. It’s sad. beep beep
